About Me:
My name is Candace Behuniak . I live in a downtown apartment, c's animation studio in Seattle, Washington, with my cat “Tommy Boy”. I am a nationally acclaimed fine artist, graphic designer, and photographer.
I am currently in pre-production, writing and directing a full-length animation motion picture.
How I came to pursue a career in the animation industry started with my childhood, as I have always been able to draw well since I was a very young girl seven years old, watching animated movies, and I created my own character … of all things a mouse!
People kept telling me all my life that I was really good! I kept cultivating my art by attending several years of art education. In my college years I have excelled in drawing, painting, and sculpture. As a senior seminar project at the University of Washington for the past six months, I have been creating pen/ink line and color illustration concept art for the novel/movie I am writing/producing. This experience “stirred” my passion to see my story and illustrations “come to life” on the wide screen, with the same color, light, music, like Walt Disney's first animated classic “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”, 1937, as well as Pixar's, ” Finding Nemo”, 2003.
I have also been working as a graphic designer and photographer, creating and marketing a line of blank photocards as Creative Design, Inc. I have also been published several times in The Spindrift, a prestigious Art & Literary Journal. http://www.shoreline.edu/spindrift/art.html
I was recently involved with the National Carousel Association, photographing carousels for a photo show project, that can be seen by people all over the world.
Now I have found my own voice as an animator, revisiting my childhood aspirations as a children's illustrator and writer, embarking in this new direction. I recently had a gallery show with this new work and I am working on another for a gallery show in Hawaii. I am also currently working on an animated screenplay, which has been exhilarating. I am also working on the concept art, character development, music, voice talent, and set construction. I recently graduated with a BFA in Painting/Drawing from the University of Washington in Seattle.
The process using tracing paper with pen/ink, much to my surprise, had been done before by the pioneer of animation, Winsor McCay (1869-1934), creating the line drawing for Gertie the Dinosaur 1914, which he engaged the dinosaur on the live stage.
I have been persuing a career in animation getting my BSA in Media Arts and Animation at the Art Institute of PittsburgOnline. There is a learning environment conducive to the exchange of ideas between teachers and each other. I am convinced that the Art Institute's Online Media Arts and Animation Program is a great fit for the ongoing education needed for me to succeed in this fast-paced growing industry, arming me with the tools, knowledge, and portfolio necessary to showcase my “creative vision” in the most professional way possible.
I am also currently a writing student at the Institute of Children's Literature, writing articles to publish and the novel of my movie.
It is my responsibility to research the industry thoroughly. I already subscribe to the Animation Magazine. I believe extensive research is needed for any subject matter, in order to truly understand and develop my craft. I can not do enough research, because “believability” will come out of what is really there.
I have a clear “creative vision”, and I know what it takes to entertain my audience. I will continue to commit the time and energy necessary to make this next level in my journey as a wrtier creating my screenplay for a movie I am producing, as a animator and as a storyboard artist . . win win.
Sincerely,
Candace Behuniak AKA “Miss Disney”
