Candace E. Behuniak

AKA "Miss Disney"

Title: Writer/Director/Composer

Gender: Female

Age: Ageless

Sun Sign: Aquarius

Chinese Sign: Water Snake

Location: Seattle, WA United States

About Me:

My name is Candace Behuniak. I live in a downtown apartment, C's Animation Studios Productions LLC in Seattle with my cat “Tommy Boy,” an intelligent, fairly large domestic tabby with emerald green eyes. I am a nationally acclaimed fine artist as well as a screenwriter, novel and story author, professional photographer and graphic designer.

I am currently in pre-production with my creative and business partner J. Spyder Isaacson (http:\barney.gonzaga.edu\~jisaacs1), writing and producing a full-length animated motion picture musical, “Once Upon a Time…,” which will be rendered in a traditional 2D animation format. In addition, we have several other projects in progress, including an animated television series and a live action/animated movie series.

How I came to pursue a career in the animation industry started with my childhood, as I have always been able to draw well since I was a very young girl seven years old, watching animated movies, and I created my own character … of all things a mouse!

People kept telling me all my life that I was really good! I kept cultivating my art by attending several years of art education. In my college years I have excelled in drawing, painting, and sculpture.  As a senior seminar project at the University of Washington, I created pen/ink line and color illustration concept art and decorative illuminated manuscript pages for the novel/fair we are writing/producing.

This experience “stirred” my passion to see my story and illustrations “come to life” on the wide screen, with the same color, light, and music, like Walt Disney's first animated classic “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”, 1937, as well as Pixar's ” Finding Nemo”, 2003.

I have also been working as a graphic designer and photographer, creating and marketing a line of blank photocards as Creative Design, Inc. I have also been published several times in The Spindrift, a prestigious Art & Literary Journal. http://www.shoreline.edu/spindrift/art.html

I was recently involved with the National Carousel Association, photographing carousels for a photo show project that can be seen by people all over the world. http://nca-usa.org/psp/FuntasticShows/,

Now I have found my own voice as a writer, revisiting my childhood aspirations as a children's writer and book illustrator, embarking in this new direction.  I recently had a gallery show with this new work and I am working on another for a gallery show in Hawaii. I am also working on the concept art, character development, music, voice talent, and set construction for the film. I graduated with a BFA in Painting/Drawing from the University of Washington in Seattle.

The process I use, tracing paper with pen/ink, much to my surprise, had been done before by the pioneer of animation, Winsor McCay (1869-1934), creating the line drawing for Gertie the Dinosaur 1914, which he engaged the dinosaur on the live stage.

I have been pursuing a career in animation getting my BSA in Media Arts and Animation at the Art Institute of Pittsburg On-line. There is a learning environment conducive to the exchange of ideas between teachers and each other.  I am convinced that the Art Institute's Online Media Arts and Animation Program is a great fit for the ongoing education needed for me to succeed in this fast-paced growing industry, arming me with the tools, knowledge, and portfolio necessary to showcase my “creative vision” in the most professional way possible.

I am a recent graduate of the Institute of Children's Literature, where I worked on writing articles to publish and the novel of my movie. I am now a full-time freelance writer, and a card-carrying member of the Pacific Northwest Writers Association. http://www.pnwa.org/

It is my responsibility to research the industry thoroughly. I believe extensive research is needed for any subject matter, in order to truly understand and develop my craft.  I cannot do enough research, because “believability” will come out of what is really there.

I have a clear “creative vision”, and I know what it takes to entertain my audience. I will continue to commit the time and energy necessary to make this next level in my journey as a writer creating my screenplay for a movie I am producing, as an animator and as a storyboard artist … win/win.

Sincerely,

Candace Behuniak AKA “Miss Disney”
